Our Goals

Increase Funding

Trans Ionics moved into a newly renovated laboratory/office complex in the Town Center of The Woodlands in October 2000 and has been actively doing research since the beginning of 2001. While initial funding for our research was provided by the owners, we have been successful in raising $2 million through Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) grants primarily from the U. S. Department of Energy.

The highly successful SBIR programs have stimulated technological innovation and increased U.S. competitiveness by allowing small businesses to develop cutting-edge technology to meet Federal research and development needs. Over $2 billion has been allocated for SBIR programs government-wide in 2006 with over $100 million of that expended by DOE.

Strengthen Collaborations

Trans Ionics has established collaborations with a number of companies to advance its technologies. Securing of Phase II SBIR grants, for instance, requires partnership with a company that will aid in the development and commercialization of Federally funded work and helps to ensure that the program is directed in such a way that its value to industry is maximized. See our Partners page for more details.

We have also begun to establish stronger relationships with academic institutions both in Texas and outside of the state. We view these relationships as key to our success.

Plan for the Future

Trans Ionics has a number of novel technologies in various stages of commercial readiness. It is our plan to begin commercializing one of these every 12-18 months beginning in 2007. In order to accomplish this, we will need to raise additional funds and plan to do so beginning in January 2007. A second offering is possible within three years to raise the capital necessary to begin commercialization of the more capital-intensive Ion Transport Membrane (ITM) based technologies like SeprOx and TransFining-R.

Key to this growth is our location in The Woodlands, TX, the fastest growing business center in the Greater Houston area and an ideal place to both nurture a small business and attract quality employees. Its Research Forest is home to a growing number of biotechnology companies like Lexicon Genetics; and its Town Center is home to such energy related companies as Shell, Anadarko, Chicago Bridge & Iron, Hughes-Christiansen, GE, and Chevron-Phillips. We expect to continue to make The Woodlands our corporate headquarters and site of our first manufacturing facility.
