Separations are a critical part of most industrial processes and in many cases consume tremendous amounts of energy. Trans Ionics is focusing on the development of separation processes which promise to significantly reduce energy consumption as well as capital and operating costs. These separations fall into four primary categories:
Recovery of ethanol for biofuels and other markets
Recovery of aromatics (especially benzene) from petroleum and chemical streams
Recovery of olefins from paraffins in petrochemical operations
Production of pure oxygen from air
Removal of sulfur from petroleum streams
Each of these areas represents a major market for new technology and can benefit from the kind of innovations being developed by Trans Ionics.
